The amalgamation and combination of different circuits, fuses, electrical switches, and breakers are utilized in different ways and are known as switchgear. It is used to protect and save electrical pieces of equipment from defective and dangerous conditions. The examples for the switchgear are fuses, switches, relays, circuit breakers, and potential transformers.

What is switchgear?
You all would know that switchgear systems are joined and imparted to the electrical supply system. It is placed in low and high voltage too. It is used to prevent the equipment from all sorts of defects. Every time when a defect or a failure takes place in the electrical power system, this switchgear saves and prevents it to be damaged. Switchgears also allow us to power on and off the transmitters, generators, and different power pieces of equipment.

How does switchgear work?
Whenever a fault takes place, the relay trips the circuit and automatically disconnects the line to prevent the fault. After this, the operative section executes the required supply, and therefore, the equipment is saved from the damage which might get caused in absence of switchgear. It also prevents the disruption of supply.

Types of different switchgear

High voltage switchgear
The power system which controls the voltages over 36KV is commonly known as high voltage. As the voltage is higher, the transition of power is also very high. Extra vigilance and high voltage switchgear are required here. High voltage switchgear will prevent the damage of equipment here and would ensure a credible and reliable
operation.

Low voltage switchgear
The switchgear up to 1KV is commonly known as low voltage. The low voltage switchgear does not require a lot of vigilance and includes, earth leakage circuit breakers and miniature circuit breakers. This switchgear ensures the proper transmission of power and smoothly runs the operations.

Medium Voltage switchgear
In most cases, starting from3KV and 36KV systems are known are medium voltage switchgear. There are several types of switchgear in medium voltage. Some of them are metal enclosed indoor type and some of them are for the mental enclosed outdoor type. This switchgear interrupts in between the heavy current and prevents all the defective situations and damage to the equipment. No matter what type of metal is used or what type of switchgear is used, the prevention from the damage is ensured in anyways.
Upgrading your switchgear is very necessary, as this prevents all sort of dangerous damages to our equipments and helps us in easy living.
